Standing in the Gap!
Perhaps due to our difficult economy, so many people have been coming to us lately in great need of help with the very basics of life -- for housing, transportation and medication. We help them through our “Standing in the Gap” program – offering rent and utility assistance, gas vouchers, bus passes, and prescriptions.
For those who receive assistance with rent or utility bills we ask them to work 12 hours of volunteer service – either at our ministry or other agencies/churches in the community. This provides them dignity and a way to give back to others.

A Work for Shelter volunteer helps another worker load boxes of clothing to be sent to relieve tsunami victims in Japan through Global Samaritan Ministries.
Standing in the Gap was made possible this year through grants from the Dian Graves Owen Foundation and the Community Foundation of Abilene (provided through $2,400 from the Foundation’s unrestricted funds and the Donor Advised Fund of the T&T Family Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Caldwell and Mrs. Jean K. Hays).
This is just one more way we’re privileged to express the love of Jesus in tangible ways to those in great financial need. To Him be the glory!
